The first seriously big Premier League match of the season sees two title rivals – Liverpool and Chelsea – clash at Anfield this Saturday.
LIVERPOOL VS CHELSEA: BETTING PREVIEW
Even the fiercest Liverpool fan would admit the fixture compilers have been kind with their early match selections. The Reds have barely broken a sweat this season. An opening day hammering (3-0) of Norwich City was complemented with a 2-0 victory last Saturday at home to Burnley.
However, matchday three promises to produce a different kind of Premier League spectacle. Chelsea, of course, pose a different threat to Liverpool altogether. The UEFA Champions League winners travel to Anfield this Saturday in great form, with the full six points and two wins already in the bag.
Although Jurgen Klopp’s side were defeated the last time they faced Chelsea in the league (2-1), Liverpool still boast an impressive record against the Blues. The Reds have battered them in four of their previous five fixtures, both on Merseyside and in west London.
We’ve got Liverpool to win 2-0 available at 11/1 (12.00).
If you fancy goals, this fixture usually produces – a 2-2 draw is 12/1 (13.00) at Anfield.
Chelsea to open the scoring and the Reds to return and win it has odds of 10/1 (11.00).
With so much attacking talent and with both teams likely to go with three forwards, the first scorer market is a bit congested.
A Sadio Mane treble at 80/1 (81.00) could also be very tempting.
The ruthless, almost effortless way Chelsea put Arsenal to the sword (2-0) last weekend proved that the reigning Champions League winners are well and truly embedded in the Premier League title race this season.
Chelsea fans know that their team were more than deserving of the plaudits they received against Arsenal last Sunday. The Blues enjoyed total control throughout the 90-minute derby. Any challenge mounted by their opponents was scared off by a flawless Drogba-esque Romelu Lukaku debut, who helped his side claim all three points with a goal in the 15th minute of the game.
A win this Saturday against Liverpool could prove vital to Chelsea’s title challenge – quite possibly making them the favourites to lift the cup come the end of the season. Although it may not be considered the fortress it once was, Anfield has always been an unhappy hunting ground for the Blues, who have only won there twice in the league since 2014.
A Chelsea win and over 2.5 goals is on offer at 7/2 (4.50).
We have 7/1 (8.00) on them to be ahead of half-time – but not see the game out.
Fancy Chelsea to run riot? Four or more goals is 18/1 (19.00).
